The North Star Network supports uprooted people, migrants, refugees and others who are considering Canada.

Here's how.

  • North Star focuses on helping people who are considering Canada and need to make a decision. North Star stays on top of developments relating to the U.S.-Canada border. We understand the law covering asylum in Canada and can help you understand it too. We do not try to persuade people to go to Canada, but we want you to have the facts. North Star provides reliable, up-to-date legal information to help you make a decision.

  • Each situation is unique. Are you alone, or with your family? Have you already applied for asylum in the U.S.? Do you have relatives in Canada? We provide individual, confidential counseling so you can see how border regulations and refugee law apply to your case. If you tell us about your situation, North Star will help you understand your legal options and assess the viability of your claim. We respect your right to make your own decision. Our services are free of charge and confidential.

  • Immigrants who have often spent weeks or months on dangerous journeys trying to get to the United States, already know what it means when you don't have food or water, a safe place to sleep or are afraid to keep going. The North Star Network has limited resources and each situation is different, but we try to help with the necessities of life when individuals and families are facing a difficult situation.

  • Getting to Canada and making a successful claim is one thing. But pursuing your claim after you've crossed the border and figuring out your next steps is another. North Star is networked with friendly partner organizations in Canada. Some provide legal aid and can connect you with a lawyer if necessary. Some help with finding a place to live or getting medical coverage. Others can help with school, a job search or training. We will help you connect with organizations that can provide the help you need.
