BE A LIGHT IN DARK TIMES
Do you want to help people who are facing detention, deportation, or persecution?
We can’t remain silent.
The United States has triggered an unprecedented humanitarian and moral catastrophe.
People are being snatched off the streets. Mass deportations are escalating. Vulnerable unaccompanied children and youth are being stripped of legal representation. ICE is weaponizing local, county and state police in communities across the country to intimidate people.
Right now, hundreds of thousands of immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers and other uprooted people in the U.S. are being criminalized and subjected to dehumanizing treatment.
They’re vulnerable to arrest, detention family separation or deportation to countries where they may face persecution and violence. They’re under threat if they speak out in public.
This has nothing to do with public safety. It violates the most fundamental rights we stand for and shocks the moral conscience.
Help lay the groundwork.

Interested in creating pathways? Want to help?
Take the first step. Filling out this form is an easy way to get in touch, ask a question, and tell us what kind of work you would be good at. It's a starting point and doesn't commit you to being a volunteer. We'll get back in touch after we hear from you.
Ways to help
→ Become a counselor. Get training to provide advice and support to potential asylum-seekers and other uprooted people. We’ll help you learn about the issues and provide back-up.
→ Get your Meeting, church, house of worship or local group involved. If individuals in your Friends Meeting, church, synagogue, mosque, local group or other organization want to help, get in touch.
→ Host an information session. Most people don’t even know Canada is a potential option. Reach out to migrants, congregations and aid groups to let them know. We will provide you with materials to help.
→ Join our hotline. Be the welcoming voice on the other end of the line when a migrant calls to set up a counseling appointment or ask a question. You can work from home.
→ Use your language or professional skills. Do you speak Arabic? Are you a social worker, organizer or teacher? Have you worked with children or young people? Are you a writer? Are you a good planner or organizer? Let us hear from you.
→ Help the network raise funds for our work. Reach out to individual donors, institutional funders and others who identify with our work. Tell the story and ask them to support North Star Network.
→ Provide humanitarian support. People skills needed. Be one of the unsung foot soldiers who help with logistics, organizational details, food, moral support and other kinds of tangible assistance when they’re needed.
→ Help NSN get the word out. We aren’t interested in broadscale publicity, but we want to reach people who may need help and volunteers who want to help. Help us spread the word with targeted outreach to important audiences.
→ Help with design, graphics and other skills. Inspire and inform the NSN community with compelling resources that tell the story. Digital channels, print, video and other ways of communicating.
→ Power NSN through research. Compile and enter information needed for NSN’s outreach and support work. Monitor local and regional trends and take part in other research projects.
→ Refer a client or friend. Do you know a migrant who feels like they’re out of options? Put them in touch with NSN and we’ll try to help. NSN’s services are free and confidential.
→ Let us know what your strengths are and how you think you can help. If none of the above apply, but you’re still interested, we would still like to hear from you. Please get in touch.
